Snooki visits NY Mets, gets booed

The NY Mets took a break from their ERA and OPIs and got some GTL. Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi visited the team as the Mets took on the Washington Nationals. “I was obsessed in the early 2000s when we had [Bobby] Valentine,” Snooki told MLB.com. “I loved [John] Franco, Robin Ventura, all of them. I was obsessed.” The MTV reality star, who is pregnant, revealed she became a Mets fan because of her grandfather. Before she found fame on Jersey Shore, Snooki was featured on the Sports Illustrated blog Hot Clicks in a YouTube video featuring her singing the Mets Fight Song. The name of the video was posted under “Hottest Mets Fan Ever.” Unfortunately, the Mets lost 2-8 to the Nationals, and Snooki was booed. Share It

Bill Maher buys minority stake in Mets

Bill Maher is now owner of the NY Mets. The comedian purchased a minority stake in the team. “First of all, I think it’s a great investment,” Maher said.  ”People sometimes forget that there’s only one National League franchise in New York City and they’re not making anymore.  I’m a Met fan all my life and I think it would be a great place.” The purchase comes after the team fell into financial struggles in the wake of the Bernie Madoff  investment scandal. The team was sued by the trustee seeking to recover money from the victims of the Ponzi scheme. In September, the team called off a $200 m minority sale of the team, instead opting to sell limited partner shares. “It happened months ago,” Maher said.  ”It’s the first time I’ve been in New York, so we didn’t say anything. But I read about it  in the paper in December saying the Mets  were available— that you could buy these limited partnerships.” Maher was at the Mets game on Sunday for an on the field ceremony at Citi Field. Though the Mets did not say how much Maher owned of the team, in March the team announced that 12 … Continue …

Off-duty NYC cop/ Mets fan arrested for seat jumping

In this economy, it is common for fans to jump seats to get closer to the action but be careful! Off-duty NYC police officer Eduardo Cornejo was arrested for seat stealing at Citi Field. Cornejo, who had a ticket to Wednesday’s Mets-Cincinnati Reds game, is being charged with trespassing. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said, “He (Cornejo) was in a section he wasn’t supposed to be, they asked him to leave. He wouldn’t. A supervisor asked him to leave. He wouldn’t. The uniformed police sergeant asked him to leave. He wouldn’t, and he was arrested as a result.” Despite the arrest, Cornejo is not letting it effect his love for the Mets. Cornejo was wearing a NY Mets hat at his home in Staten Island when a NY Post writer asked for a comment. The worst part of the story is the Mets didn’t even win the game, falling to the Reds 6-2. Ndamukong Suh and Javid Best save football team’s Homecoming

Detroit Lions Ndamukong Suh is known as one of the fiercest players in the NFL, but the defensive tackle showed he has a softer side when him and teammate Jahvid Best saved a Detroit high school’s Homecoming. On Monday, Detroit’s Frederick Douglas College Preparatory Academy’s locker room was burglarized. The intruders stole over 20 helmets, pads and cleats, leaving the football team with no equipment to practice with and the possibility of having to forfiet the school’s Homecoming game. Suh, Best, Quicken Loans, Boby Max Ford, Xenith Helmet, and two Detroit suburban high schools raised money and donated new equipment for the Hurricanes. The new gear was hand delivered by none other than Suh and Best before the game, which Douglas went on to win, 50-0. “I was so pleased and thankful … because most of these young men, to have things taken from them, it was very personal,” said athletic coordinator Michael Hamlett. The Detroit Lions are 4-0 for the first time since 1980 after over coming a 24-point deficit against the Dallas Cowboys. Looks like America’s team was just defeated by America’s sweetheart. Share It
