8th grader offered college basketball scholarship

To Catch a Predator Chris Hansen better be on the look out for college basketball coaches. 8th grader Eron Gordon was offered his first college scholarship to Indiana University. But Gordon already has a proven pedigree, his older brother Eric Gordon, who plays for the New Orleans Hornets and spent one year at Indiana University, leading the Big 10 in scoring.

Hoosier head coach Tom Crean offered Gordon the scholarship after seeing him play in the 15-and-under Eric Gordon Central Stars at the IndyBall.com Shootout over the weekend. Gordon is keeping his options open, taking an unofficial visit to Purdue this week. Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Xavier and Wisconsin are also said to be interested in the 6-1 middle schooler.

Spartans to play Trojans in Greece?

After playing an outdoor hockey game in front of 75,000 people and a basketball game on an Air Force carrier in the Pacific Ocean, Michigan State has decided to up the ante by playing a basketball game in Greece against the Spartans ancient rival Trojans.

In an interview with the Lansing State Journal, MSU athletic director Mark Hollis revealed, “We’ve been talking about Greece for a while.”

The game against the USC Trojans would be at Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens, Greece. Anthens hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.

Lebatard compared Callipari’s recent NCAA infractions to the University of Miami football scandal, which uncovered that players were receiving money for vacations, extravagant gifts and prostitutes!

Navy carrier that burried Bin Laden will host college basketball game

The US Navy ship that casted Osama Bin Laden’s body into the Arabian Sea will now host a college basketball game against two school power houses… if that’s not American I don’t know what is! The USS Carl Vinson will host the standoff between the University of North Carolina and Michigan State. 7,000 lucky fans, mostly military personnel and their families, will watch the two school power houses square off. The carrier ship will be docked off San Diego and will be hosted 11/11/2011.

Despite the Carl Vinson’s famous track record, the ship was chosen because it will be in US waters but is expected to return to sea by the year’s end. The event is called the Carrier Classic, which the NCAA hopes to make an annual event. #AMERICA

Top recruit chooses UNC over Duke because of spelling mistake

When top North Carolina basketball recruit PJ Hairston wanted to choose a college close to home, the Duke Blue Devils thought they had it in the bag… that was until Hairston choose rival UNC because of some costly spelling mistakes.

Despite being recruited by Florida, Georgetown and Wake Forest, the Hargrave Military Academy senior narrowed it down to his neighboring schools Duke and North Carolina. Though the schools may only be within 10 miles of each other, and Duke the most recent of the schools to win a championship, Hairston decided to go with UNC because they could spell his name right.

“The thing about Duke was, every time they sent me a letter, they wouldn’t spell my name right,” Hairston said. “They would have ‘T.J. Harrison’ or something like that. And I’m like, ‘OK. How can I go here? You can’t even spell my name right.’ It’s only two letters and HAIR and STON. I’m trying to figure out how that’s so hard.”

Jimmer Fredette to star in reality show

Now that BYU basketball star Jimmer Fredette doesn’t have to go to class anymore, he has turned his sights onto the small screen. The 20-year old who led the nation in scoring will be in a reality show for the NBA draft.

Tupelo-Honey Productionss announced they will document over 100-hours in 30 days leading up to the draft. Jimmer will provide his fans with daily updates in webispodes and video blogs, along with a televised documentary.

“This is an amazing time for me,” Fredette said. “I’m looking forward to preparing for an NBA career, and this project will allow me to share the excitement I’m feeling with the fans who have been with me for my college career. Putting this on the internet means basketball fans everywhere can follow this great opportunity that I’m blessed to have.”

Jimmer Fredette told not to go to class by BYU

BYU’s Jimmer Fredette is too cool for school. The basketball superstar has been told not to go to class by school officials because he is a “distraction to students.” Since Fredette’s return from the NCAA tournament, Fredette cannot go anywhere in Provo without being asked for autographs or pictures… and that includes the classroom. BYU has instead asked Fredette to take online classes.

According to Jimmer’s father Al Fredette, “It was getting too disruptive. He can’t go anywhere in Provo without being recognized.”

While Fredette has no officially declared for the NBA draft, he is expected to go early in the first round.

Congratulations UConn 2011 NCAA Champions

Congratulations to UConn men’s basketball team who are the 2011 NCAA Champions. The Huskies beat the Butler Bulldogs 53-41, in the lowest scoring championship game since 1949. The UConn students were so bored they decided to try and flip over cars.

Kentucky could get in trouble for talking to Jay-Z

After the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team clinched their sport in the Final Four, they were congratulated by Jay-Z in the locker room… but hanging with Hova comes at a price and has prompted an NCAA investigation. Under NCAA regulations, NBA owners are not allowed to interact with collegiate athletes. Because Jay-Z is co-owner of the New Jersey Nets he is prohbited from having any contact with amateur athletes.

In 2007, Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge was fined $30,000 for sitting with then University of Texas star freshme Kevin Durant’s mom. Lucky for Jay-Z, $30,000 is nothing!

Greg Gumbel calls CBS ESPN

Greg Gumbel momentarly forgot what network he worked for during his broadcast of the NCAA tournament and accidentally called CBS ESPN. Although Gumbel worked for ESPN for almost 20 years, CBS pays the big bucks to the broadcasting rights.
