UFC wrestler loses job over Obama threat

UFC fighter Jacob Volkmann told a reporter he wanted to beat up President Obama as his next opponent. Though Volkmann back pedaled and said he was only joking, the threat prompted an investigation by Secret Service and has now cost Volkmann his job.

Volkmann is an assistant wrestling coach at a Minnesota high school. In an interview with Fox News Radio, Volkmann said, “They didn’t like how I was representing the school… They said I was representing them bad because of what I said about the president and his policies.”

In a post match victory interview, UFC Jacob Volkmann said he wants his next opponent to be President Obama (3:00 mark in the video). Volkmann explained he is struggling to open up his own chiropractor practice, and he does not agree with the Health Care Bill and wanted to knock some sense into the President.

MMA Fighting reporter Ariel Helwani joked with Volkmann about his comment, but it was no laughing matter when Secret Service agents showed up at the Minnesota high school Volkmann coaches wrestling at to investigate the threat.

Volkmann told the Pioneer Press, the Secret Service showed up with his picture and a transcript of the UFC interview. Agents wanted to know if Volkmann planned to go to Washington DC to hurt the President, but Volkmann told them, “No, I can’t even afford the plane ticket.”

The encounter lasted around three minutes. Lucky for Volkmann, he did not have to go through the full body scan.

UFC paying for 4-year old girl’s liver transplant

The UFC maybe violet and barbaric, but it certainly does have its soft side. UFC President Dana White is paying for a 4-year old girl’s liver transplant after an amateur fighter posted the request on an internet message board. Dan Pittsley wrote on MixedMartialArts.com:

I recently [visited] Tiger Muay Thai and had the experience of a lifetime, But this is not about me, this is about SAVING THE LIFE OF A 4yr OLD GIRL!!!!
I had the pleasure of training with Kru Nai and meeting his family….When I returned home I learned that his daughter needs a LIVER TRANSPLANT or will die….the doctors gave 4 weeks to live…..

Just hours after the request was posted, a UFC employee responded saying White would pay for the surgery. White has been an advocate for charity, donating $250,000 for cancer research and started a boxing program for inner city children in Boston.

YouTube sensation Antoine Dodson famous for the Bed Intruder song was a special guest at last night’s UFC fight in Detroit. Dodson can be seen in UFC President Dana White’s video blog above. While the main fight between Rampage v. Machida went to a decision, if you ask us Dodson was the main event.

As The Big Lead pointed out, last week the UFC released a list of websites who show illegal streams of UFC Fights exclusive to Pay Per View, YouTube being one of them… oh the irony!
