LeBron Watch: Free Agent Summit?

Yesterday, ESPN reported a free agent summit was held in Miami involving LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. Wade attempted to lure over the highly coveted free agents Bosh and James. However, today the Miami Herald said the summit never happened.Reps for both Wade and Bosh are denying the summit, but others report the trio are trying to keep their meeting under wraps since the free agent market does not open until July 1. Should be interesting as to what was more convincing to win in the LeBron sweepstakes… the Miami Summit or the LeBron Flash Mob?

Bio: LeBron James

LeBron Raymone James (pronounced /ləˈbrɒn/; born December 30, 1984) is an American professional basketball player for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Nicknamed “King James”, he was a three-time “Mr. Basketball” of Ohio in high school, and was highly promoted in the national media as a future NBA superstar while a sophomore at St. Vincent – St. Mary High School. At just 18, he was selected with the number one pick in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers and signed a shoe contract with Nike before his professional debut. Listed as a small forward, James has set numerous youngest player records since joining the league. He was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2003–04, NBA Most Valuable Player in 2008–09 and 2009–10, and has been both All-NBA selection and an All-Star every season since 2005. In 2010, a much-publicized free agency process ended with James going to the Miami Heat. He became the third reigning NBA MVP to change teams and the first since Moses Malone in 1982.

The focal point of the Cleveland offense, James led the team to consecutive playoff appearances from 2006 through 2010. In 2007, the Cavaliers advanced to the Conference Finals for the first time since 1992 and to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history. James has been a member of the USA national team, winning a bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics and gold at the 2008 Olympics.

LeBron James left Cleveland in July 2010 to go to the Miami Heat. James came under fire for hosting a prime time special called “The Decision,” where he announced that he would sign with the Heat along with other NBA stars Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade.

LeBron James attends LeBron Appreciation Day in Ohio

Cavs fans are pulling out all the stops to keep LeBron James in Cleveland. LeBron is a free-agent and rumored to be on the outs of the team that drafted him and his home-state. As thejerseychaser.com posted earlier, fans even formed a Flash Mob at a local Ohio Mall as a publicity stunt to keep LBJ.

Yesterday was LeBron Appreciation Day in Ohio, and LBJ himself showed up to a rally being held in his honor. From his speech, LeBron gave hints to him possibly staying: “Everything I do is for this city. I’m going to continue to do great things. I love every last one of you all. Akron is my home.”

Video: Cavilers fans perform Flash Mob to keep LeBron in Cleveland

Now that the Cleveland Cavaliers failed to get Tom Izzo as their head coach in order to lure LeBron James into resigning with the team, it is now time for Plan B. Fans preformed a Flash Mob dance at the Tower City Mall on Thursday. The purpose was to “Keep LeBron in Cleveland” and was organized by Greater Cleveland Sports CEO David Gilbert. 200 boys and girls from Cleveland and Akron Boys and Girls clubs were apart of the Flash Mob.

Today is also LeBron James Appreciation Day in Ohio. A rally is being held in LeBron’s hometown of Akron.

No word yet if the Flash Mob worked…. or if LeBron even knows about it.
