Kobayashi to compete via satellite in Coney Island hot dog eating contest

The Michael Jordan of food competitors, Takeru Kobayashi, will compete via satellite in the anual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Competition at Coney Island, New York. Kobayashi has won the title six-times, but he will not compete this year due to a contract dispute with the competition organizer Major League Eating. Under Major League Eating Contract, eaters can only participate in Major League Eating events and have total control over any endorsments.

Last year, Kobayashi sat out of the competition and has decided to take part via satellilte this year. I hope to create awareness about the nature of this kind of business,” Kobayashi said.  “At least they cannot erase history.”

Kobayashi is refering to that Nathan’s has removed him from their eating wall of fame after he was arrested at the competition last 4th of July. After Major League Eating banned Kobayashi from comeptiting, the world record holder rushed the stage and spent the night in a New York City jail.

A Japenese man in jail because he is not allowed to compete in a hot dog eating contest on Independence Day… if that isn’t American I don’t know what is?!?
