Sacramento Kings owner Maloof arrested for DUI

Sacramento Kings owner George Maloof was arrested for a DUI over the weekend. Maloof was driving home from a wedding and was pulled over while turning into his driveway. He was just over the legal limit, with a blood alcohol level of .086. Maloof told the Sacramento Bee, “I didn’t feel I was intoxicated.”

The owner of the Kings and Las Vegas Palms Casino and Hotel said he didn’t post bail and didn’t want to call anyone and was released from jail Sunday morning.

It seems like the Sacramento Kings need to have a drivers training education class. Back in May, Kings Tyreke Evans, the NBA Rookie of the Year, was pulled over for driving his Mercedes 130 MPH. Evans was charged with reckless driving.

Maloof was driving back from the wedding with his assistant. The assistant asked Maloof to drive (let’s see if she keeps her job… but there is always a career in jersey chasing)!

Mike Ilitch is buying the Detroit Pistons

Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers owner Mike Ilitch will now be a triple threat in the sports owners’ world as he adds owner of the Detroit Pistons to his resume. Ilitch secured an exclusive 30-day agreement to purchase the team and Palace Entertainment, that could be completed before the start of the NBA season. Ilitch’s bid to buy the team is reportedly worth $400 million and includes the purchase of Palace Entertainment.

Illitch’s purchase of the Pistons would not only make him a dominant force in the sporting world but also in entertainment. Illitch owns Olympia Entertainment, which includes such facilities as: Fox Theatre and Cobo Arena.

While the Pistons currently play at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Ilitch has not made it a secret that he wants to move the team back to Detroit. The Pistons left the city in the 1970′s, and the Detroit Red Wings are also looking for a new arena. Detroit Mayor Daive Bing hopes they return, “We continue to be excited about the possibility of the Detroit Pistons returning to Detroit, which is nationally recognized as a destination for professional sports. The deal is not done, but we remain optimistic.” Bing is also a former NBA player.

Ilitch first expressed interest in purchasing the Pistons back in early August when current owner Karen Davidson reviled that the selling of the team meant there was no guarantee the team would be staying in Michigan.  Karen took over ownership of the team when her late husband Bill Davidson died in March 2009.

Bill Davidson and Mike Ilitch had an ongoing rivalry as business leaders in Detroit.  In June, The Palace filed a lawsuit accusing Ilitch Holdings of taking employees and proprietary information.

Carlos Boozer breaks hand by tripping over suitcase; out 8 weeks

With the NBA regular season 23 days away, Chicago Bulls fans got some bad news. Forward Carlos Boozer is out 8 weeks after he broke the fifth metatarsal in his right hand. Boozer did not suffer the injury in practice or in a preseason game… instead the 6’9” Duke Alumn broke his hand tripping over his suitcase.

As quoted by the Arlington Heights Daily Herald’s Mike McGraw:

“It happened last night, probably 5:30-6 o’clock at night, got it looked at right away. I find out for sure today when I saw the hand specialist. I’m going to get it done as soon as possible, so Tuesday morning I’m going in early to get the surgery taken care of so I can start my rehab process.

“It was just dark. My doorbell had rang and I tripped over a bag, tried to brace myself and it popped. I jumped back up, opened the door and my hand was still a little bit numb.

“It was a gym bag. It was a big bag I had first thing over here at the hotel for training camp. I went back to my place, hadn’t unpacked the bag yet, came around the corner, running to get the door and fell over it. I’m 265, 5 percent body fat. I’m heavy, man. I guess I had to brace myself and my weight just collapsed the bone right there.”
