Dallas reporter calls out Rangers pitcher for missing game to see the birth of his child

It has been quite the year for Texas Rangers pitcher Colby Lewis… in October, Lewis helped lead the Rangers to their first World Series ever and his wife gave birth to ther second daughter this past week. Lewis was on standby for when his wife went into labor and missed his fourth start of the season to be in the delvery room, but according to a Dallas reporter, Lewis abandoned his team!

In his column in the Dallas Observer Jason Whitt wrote, “Imagine if Jason Witten missed a game to attend the birth of a child. It’s just, I dunno, weird. Wrong even. Departures? Totally get it because at a funeral you’re saying goodbye to someone for the last time. But an arrival is merely saying hello to someone you’ll see the rest of your life.”

Under the new MLB paternity leave list players had a 24-72 hour window to leave when expecting a baby. Passed this year, Lewis became the first pitcher to exercise the new rule.
