Oakland University mens basketball team played with women’s ball

During last night’s University of Illinois vs. Oakland University men’s basketball game, Illinois realized they were playing with a women’s basketball seven minutes into the first half.

A men’s basketball is one inch smaller and two ounces lighter than a woman’s ball. But no one noticed the difference in size until Illinois guard Demitri McCamey complained to the refs. The officials did not believe McCamey and his teammate center Mike Tisdale had to help convince the refs of their mistake.

Women’s ball or not, the Fighting Illini won the game 74-63.

Tom Izzo is staying at Michigan State

Tom Izzo has decided not to take the 5 year $30 million dollar coaching job for the Cleveland Cavilers to stay at Michigan State. Izzo has the head coach of MSU basketball since 1995 and has led the team to a 2000 National Championship and six final fours.

The announcement came Tuesday evening when Izzo held a press conference alongside MSU president Lou Anna Simon and athletic director Mark Hollis.

After a two week courtship many speculated Izzo would take the job especially with LeBron’s approval as thejerseychaser reported Monday.

Izzo addressed the LeBron situation by saying: “Just as I decided to stay home, I hope a 6-8, 270 pound forward in Cleveland decides to stay home.”

I wonder who he was referring to?

LeBron Watch: LeBron on board for Izzo hiring

Tom Izzo was supposed to announce his decision on whether or not he would be accepting the head coaching position for the Cleveland Cavilers on Saturday but delayed his announcement until today.

Whether or not Izzo has reach his decision remains unknown, but according to ESPN.com high level sources say LeBron James is onboard for the Izzo hiring.

While LeBron endorses Izzo, he will not guarantee his return to Cleveland on the hiring alone. Izzo has allegedly reached out to LeBron James.

This morning, Izzo spoke to a youth basketball camp held at MSU but did not offer any insight on his decision.
