For Super Bowl XLVII, two teams will battle to put a ring on it, and Beyonce will perform at halftime. The AP reported that the 31-year old Mrs. Shawn Carter will take the stage in New Orleans on Feb. 3. No word yet if any of the number of artists who have collaborated with Beyonce will join her. The 16-time Grammy award winner has worked with Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Shakira, Sean Paul and husband Jay-Z.
While her first halftime performance, Beyonce sang the National Anthem at Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004. A noted sports fan, Jay-Z owns part of the Brooklyn Nets. Beyonce, who grew up in Texas, just might get to cheer on her hometown team and early Super Bowl favorites Houston Texans. Unfortunately for Jay-Z, it is doubtful his NY Jets will be contenders.
Justin Verlander is two games away from going to the World Series and is dating a Sports Illustrated cover girl. The reining AL MVP’s grandfather confirmed the long rumored relationship.
Richard Verlander Sr. told Celebuzz, “I heard he has been on dates with a Sports Illustrated girl. I saw a photo — she’s beautiful. They make a good looking pair because he’s a good looking man too. I do know he’s on the dating scene. Justin is a fine boy and whoever he ends up with is lucky. He’s not only a great baseball player, he’s a great guy.”
The couple have been linked together since July and were photographed together in late September when the Tigers played the Chicago White Sox. Verlander’s grandpa isn’t the first family member to hint at their relationship. Upton’s uncle and Michigan Congressman (R) Fred Upton said he was rooting for the Detroit Tigers and Justin Verlander for family reasons. The fact that his niece is on the cover of SI and is dating the Tiger’s ace should help Congressman’s Upton reelection in November.
The Europeans’ Ryder Cup comeback over the Americans came just in the nick of time, especially for Rory McIllroy. The World’s No.1 golfer arrived just 10 minutes before his Sunday tee time as the Europeans entered the match’s final day trailing 10-6.
McIllroy had to receive a police escort to Medinah Country Club because he thought his match started at 12:35 local time not Eastern Time. The 23-year old ran from his car to the practice putting green to hit a couple of putts while eating an energy bar as fans chanted “Where is Rory” and “Central Time Zone.”
Despite the near miss, Team Europe won the Ryder Cup in the biggest comeback in match history taking 8 1/2 points to the US’ 3 1/2 points in the single matches. In what is being called the Miracle at Medinah, Europe won the tournament by 14 1/2 to 13 1/2 points in the final round.
