The President took a break from national debt talks to congratulate the team, who despite winning the World Series in 1954 did not visit President Dwight Eisenhower because it was before the tradition started.
Obama poked fun at Giants Tim Lincecum saying, “America learned sometimes it’s a good idea to bet on the skinny guy,” and telling Brian Wilson he “feared the beard.”
The President told the crowd of almost 200 people, which included prominent guests House Minority Speaker Nancy Pelosi, “So even though this team is a little different, even though these players haven’t always followed the traditional rules, one thing they know is how to win.”
One person not in attendance was the Machine, who apparently couldn’t clear Secret Service!
Lake County Fielders announcer, Qumar Zaman, quit on the air after the minor league baseball game. The team is owned by Kevin Costner, who is said to not be paying players. Last week, in a game against Jose Canseco’s team, the Chemist pitched for the opponent.
Brad Pitt is taking time off from saving the world to narrate the MLB All-Star opening segment. The 82nd All-Star game will commemorate the players in the game, and according to the MLB, ”Pitt will celebrate Major League Baseball All-Stars past and present, showing fans what it means to be the best.”
Pitt is starring in an upcoming biopic film about baseball player and manager Billy Beane called Moneyball. The movie, which is out in September details how the Oakland A’s’ front office took advantage of more empirical gauges of player performance to field a team that could compete successfully against richer competitors in the MLB. Despite his newest movie role, Pitt admits he knows nothing about baseball, “I knew very little about baseball apart from taking one in the face in junior high,” (which resulted in 18 stiches).
While Pitt will not be at the game, Jordin Sparks and Michelle Branch will sing the National Anthem and “God Bless America” before the game!
The only drug Charlie Sheen is on is Charlie Sheen, but back when the movie star filmed Major League he was on steroids. In a new interview with Sports Illustrated Sheen admits, “Let’s just say that I was enhancing my performance a little bit. It was the only time I ever did steroids. I did them for like six or eight weeks. You can print this, I don’t give a f-. My fastball went from 79 to like 85.”
The 1989 baseball satire grossed more than $50 million, in which Sheen starred as the incarcerated pitcher Rick Vaughn. Sheen stopped using when he could not control his temper. “I didn’t like the haircut because it generated so many comments in bars,” Sheen said. ”I’ve got enough of that already. Add that to the mix, and it’s a recipe for a fistfight!”
I am not sure what is more surprising, that Charlie Sheen has a temper or that he used steroids?
