Delonte West banned from the White House

The highlight for many athletes when winning a championship is the visit to the White House and meeting the President, but Delonte West will not be traveling with the Dallas Mavericks to meet President Obama because of weapons charges and is banned from the White House. West pleased guilty to weapons and traffic charges when he was pulled over in 2009, and police found three guns hidden in a guitar case.

“I’m banned from going to the White House, so I’m not going to make it. But I’m going home to D.C., I’m just not allowed to go to the White House,” West told the Ft. Worth- Star Telegram. “That’s what happens when you make bad decisions in your life. You can’t go to the White House.”

After the media picked up the story, West went on a Tweeting rampage because he felt reporters were asking him unrelated basketball questions including saying he, “He says he has to sleep in his car because he can’t get apartment complexes in Dallas to approve him because of things they read on the internet,” and “The league minimum of $800,000 isn’t really all that much because of lawyer fees, agent fees, league fines, escrow, and his divorce settlement.”

But don’t feel too bad for West, he didn’t even play for the Dallas Mavericks Championship team las year and played for the Boston Celtics.

Cavs player misses game because of lost passport #FAIL

For Cleveland Cavaliers center Samardo Samuels, bad news doesnt travel fast, it doesn’t travel at all. Samuels was forced to stay home when the team traveled to Toronto to play the Raptors because he lost his passport. Just the day before, Samuels was benched in the Cavs win against the Charlotte Bobcats.

Cavalier’s coach Bryon Scott was critical of Samuels misplaced passport. “I’m going to chalk it up to youth and inexperience. Hopefully, he learned his lesson and it never happens again,” Scott said.

Samuels was not able to get a passport on short notice because he is from Jamacia, and team officals had trouble with visa issues. The 22-year old will rejoin the team Thursday in Minneapolis against the Timberwolves.

Magic Johnson using hip hop to fight homophobia and HIV

Magic Johnson is one of the greatest basketball players of all time and the most prevelant faces in the fight against HIV. Since his diagnosis in 1991, Johnson has dedicated his life to HIV awareness. Now, Johnson hopes to use hip hop to decrease homophobia within African American culture.

“As a hip-hop fan, you realize that homophobia is still an issue everywhere, but especially in the black community. When people are scared to talk about it, that’s how the disease spreads,” Magic told the Huffington Post.

“I have a lot of friends in [the hip hop] industry and so what we’re trying to do is rally them to get behind the cause, deliver the message to these young people that HIV and AIDS is big and it’s not going anywhere.”

Maybe Magic can call on fellow basketball player rapper Ron Artest or Metta World Peace.
