Lance Armstrong banned from Chicago Marathon

Lance Armstrong has been banned from running the Chicago Marathon. Race director Carey Pinkowski said, “I have had no direct contact from Lance or anyone representing him. We had some indication from his charity (Livestrong) that Lance might have been interested in running.”

The disgraced cyclist was banned from the sport after her chose not to contest performance enhancing charges against him by the United States Anti-Doping Agency. Under USA Track & Field rules, banned athletes in other sports are prohibited from running the Chicago, Boston and New York Marathon.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Pinkowski learned Armstrong was interested in running the Chicago or New York Marathon on Thursday at a charity operations meeting before deciding with New York and Boston race director that they would uphold the WADA rules.

Despite not being allowed to run the Chicago Marathon, Livestrong will continue its association with the race. “They are one of our strongest charities,” Pinkowski said.  “They will have 250 participants this year.  We will continue to support the charity and its efforts.”

Florida high school has girl quaterback

The Boys of Fall is also the Girls of Fall for South Plantation High School in Plantation, Fla, as 17-year old Erin DiMeglio earned her spot as the third-string quarterback. After impressing head coach Doug Gatewood as quarterback of the girls’ flag football team, DiMeglio was invited to practice in off-season workouts.

DiMeglio earned a roster position after summer workouts and the confidence of her teammates. In an article in the New York Times, Paladins’ starting quarterback, John Franklin, said. “We’d be warming up, and people would stop over and wait for her to throw to see if she could play, and then they’d walk away like, ‘Oh, they have a girl, and she’s for real.’ ”

While throwing came naturally to DiMeglio, she had to learn to tackle from the junior varsity team.

“Everybody says, ‘What happens when she gets hit?’ ” Gatewood said. “This isn’t a knock on Erin, but she’s bigger than 10 kids on my team. I have a wide receiver that weighs 25 pounds less than her. And the pads she wears are the same as the pads he wears.”

Now that’s a true jersey chaser…

Elisha Cuthbert Engaged to NHL star Dion Phaneuf

Congratulations to Elisha Cuthbert who is engaged to NHL star Dion Paneuf. Cuthebert stars in ABC’s Happy Endings and is most known for playing Kim Bauer on Fox’s 24, while Paneuf is a two-time All-Star and captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Cuthbert, a fellow Canadian and avid hockey fan, began dating Phaneuf in 2008. Their relationship made news when Cuthbert’s ex-boyfriend NHL player Sean Avery told reporters before a game against Paneuf, “I’m just going to say one thing. I’m really happy to be back in Calgary; I love Canada. I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about, but enjoy the game tonight.”

Avery was suspended for his comments, and four years later Cuthbert and Paneuf are engaged. The couple will have a lot of time on their hands to plan a wedding with the expected NHL lockout.

Sheryl Crow interogated by federal agents on Lance Armstrong doping investigations

Last week, Lance Armstrong announced he would not contest performance enhancing charges against him by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.  New reports revealed federal agents interview Armstrong’s former fiancé Sheryl Crow, which is leading many to suspect could have been the smoking gun.

The seven-time Tour de France winner was stripped of his titles and received a lifetime ban from the sport. While Armstrong maintains his innocence, many questioned why the most dominant athlete in sports would not attempt to clear his name. According to the New York Daily News, Crow was subpoenaed in late 2011 in the agency’s two-year investigation.

After battling steroid allegations for the majority of his career, Armstrong said, “There comes a point in every man’s life when he has to say, ‘Enough is enough’. For me, that time is now.”  This week, Armstrong’s former teammate Tyler Hamilton is releasing a memoir,“The Secret Race: Inside the Hidden World of the Tour de France, Doping, Cover-ups and Winning at All Costs.”

In it, Hamilton alleges  Crow stayed in an apartment in Girona, Spain that Armstrong used to store  performance-enhancing drugs to teammates before major races. Crow’s attorney, Jay Cooper told the Daily Mail, “I’m not going to comment one way or the other.”

Crow and Armstrong began dating in 2003 before announcing their engagement in September 2005. The couple broke up in February 2006, just after Armstrong won his 7th Tour de France title and subsequently retiring from the sport.
