Congratulations to Elisha Cuthbert who is engaged to NHL star Dion Paneuf. Cuthebert stars in ABC’s Happy Endings and is most known for playing Kim Bauer on Fox’s 24, while Paneuf is a two-time All-Star and captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Cuthbert, a fellow Canadian and avid hockey fan, began dating Phaneuf in 2008. Their relationship made news when Cuthbert’s ex-boyfriend NHL player Sean Avery told reporters before a game against Paneuf, “I’m just going to say one thing. I’m really happy to be back in Calgary; I love Canada. I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about, but enjoy the game tonight.”
The sport of hockey is used to crazy things being thrown on the ice… hats, octopus, plastic rats, but eyebrows were raised on Dec. 20 when a Toronto Maple Leafs fan threw waffles on the ice after the Leafs lost to the defending Eastern conference champions the Philadelphia Flyers. The man in question was 25-year old John Robb who faced legal action from the Original 6 origination. Robb was charged with criminal mischief and faced 30-hours of community service and probation, but according to the Toronto Star the charges has been dropped and Robb is a free man:
“I said, let’s keep ’er going. We pay the same money. Why can’t we throw waffles because we think they’re playing bad,” he said. “People throw hats when they think they’re playing good. Why can’t we do something to show disapproval for what’s happened over the past 44 years — especially in my lifetime, 25 years of robbing us and lies?”
The Leafs have not won a Stanley Cup since 1967. Unfortently for Robb, while charges were dropped he still faces a lifetime ban from the Air Canada Centre. Looks like someone Leggoed his Ego.
The Vancouver Canucks Green Men have gained quite a following. The dedicated fans sit next to the penalty box and taunt the opposing team. During last night’s Canucks vs. Toronto Maple Leafs game, the Green Men took advantage of the odd behavior Leafs fans displayed last week when they threw waffles at the players after they lost a game. The Green Men go by the names Force and Sully. Not much is known about their identity, but they do a pretty good job at agitating the players, the Canucks beat the Leafs 4-1.
Octopi, plastic rats and now waffles can be added to the list of crazy things hockey fans throw on the ice. After the Toronto Maples Leafs lost to the Philadelphia Flyers, Leaf fans threw waffles on the ice to show their frustration at the 10-14 Maple Leafs. After the game, winger Colby Armstrong said:
“Who brings waffles to a hockey game, really? Had we won the game, he was going home with soggy waffles so, I don’t know. Whatever. I don’t appreciate it really, a guy throwing waffles at me when I’m skating by. We’re trying to make light of it in here. Throw a T-bone. Spend some money. Throw a filet.”
