As the NHL trading deadline draws near, Carrie Underwood’s husband Mike Fisher has been traded to the Nashville Predators. Drafted by the Ottawa Senators, Fisher spent his entire NHL career in the Canadian capital. The Yoko Ono move comes as a surprise to players and Senators.
“You’re surprised right away, and sad…Unfortunately, this year we haven’t been able to play the way we’re capable of and we all know the reality that comes with it,” captain Daniel Alfredsson said.
While the Senators are in second to last place in their conference, the move comes as a convenience to Fisher. Since marrying in July, Fisher has been living apart from Underwood who is based in Nashville.
World Vision, a charity company that donates clothes to places in need, has received more than $2 million in Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Champions gear. The clothes will go to Zambia, Nicaragua, Romania, Haiti and Armenia and include t-shirts, hats, towels and sweatshirts. The NFL, Dicks Sporting Goods and Sports Authority have all donated clothing. The countries were selected to decrease chances of the losing gear appearing on eBay. Talk about last season’s clothes…
Robert Cook, the man known to have never missed a Super Bowl missed Sunday’s Super Bowl XLV. Cook, who is a Wisconsin native and Green Bay Packers fan, was featured in the VISA commercial featuring the group who calls themselves the “Never Miss a Super Bowl Club.” The group has gone to 44 consecutive Super Bowls and have missed weddings, births and even passed up on adopting a child to go to the game. Cook is in the hospital for an undisclosed “illness”after being admitted last Thursday.
Three of the original five members, Donald Crisman, Larry Jacobson and Thomas Henschel, still went in Cook’s place. Since finding out about the “Never Miss a Super Bowl” club 14 years ago, the NFL has given the members tickets at voucher or face value price. Cook watched the Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, 31-25, in his hospital room.
With the addition of Utah and Colorado, the Pac 10 is now the Pac 12… but their domain name isn’t. The Pac 12 wants their web address to be Pac12.com, and so the rebranding campaign has been put on hold as a dedicated Tupac Shakur fan will not give up the domain name. Pac12.com is a MP3 widget allowing fans to download full Tupac albums via Amazon. The Pac12.com web page was left blank, until the Pac 12 filed a lawsuit with the World Intellectual Property Forum to gain ownership.
You would think the Pac 12 would have learned their lesson. Up until 2009, Pac10.com was owned by advertising and marketing company Marchex.
