Rashard Mendenhall is fired by Champion over Bin Laden Tweets

Rashard Mendenhall was the first athlete to sign an endorsement deal with Champion in over a decade, but the Pittsburgh Steelers running back has been dropped by the sports apparel company over controversial Tweets.

After the death of Osama Bin Laden, Mendenhall criticized Americans for celebrating his death saying, “What kind of person celebrates death? It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side…”

In one Tweet, Mendenhall even questioned the validity of 9/11, “”We’ll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style.”

Champion said the company does not think “Mendenhall can appropriately represent Champion,” and even the Steelers released a statement distancing itself from the comments.

But unike Rashard Mendenhall, Seal Team 6 does not drop the ball!

Phillies fans chant USA after news of bin Laden’s death

When news broke of Osama Bin Laden’s death, the NY Mets and Philadelphia Phillies were in a heated divisional matchup but any rivalry was interrupted by the fans chanting “USA!” Players did not find out the reason behind the chanting until an inning later. After the game, Mets third-baseman David Wright said, “I don’t like to give Philadelphia fans too much credit, but they got this one right,” and pitcher Chris Young said, “There are some things in life that are bigger than a game. To hear the crowd chant ‘USA’, I got chills.”
