Baseball playoffs haven’t exactly been getting the best ratings… Fox even buried Game 3 of the ALCS in the afternoon for X Factor before a two-hour rain delay ruined the plan, so the MLB’s latest promo featured the St. Louis Cardnials Rally Squirrel. A squirrel ran across the field in Games 4 and 5 of the NLDS between the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies. In Game 4, the play as interrupted when the Rally Squirrel ran across home plate as Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt was delivering a pitch to Skip Schumaker. The pitch was called a ball much to Oswalt and Phillies manager Charlie Manuel’s dismay. The Cardinals went on to win the series causing many to attribute the win to the Rally Squirrel. You can follow the Rally Squirrel on Twitter @BuschSquirrel!
Phillies bench player John Mayberry Jr. can’t score on the field or off. After seeing Pirates of the Caribbean, the .264 right fielder asked his agent to set him up with actress Antoinette Nikprelaj who played the mermaid, only problem is Nikprelaj is married and has a child!
In the email, Mayberry’s agent wrote: “I hate to even be sending you this e-mail, and I’m quite embarrassed to say the least, but we have a young client on the Philadelphia Phillies who asked us if we knew any agents at Innovative Artists and could connect him to Antoinette Nikprelaj.
“I know you’re not a dating or set-up service, but John Mayberry Jr. (Phillies OF) would love to meet Antoinette or invite her to a baseball game sometime. Would this be possible?”
He added, “Here’s a bio of John to give you some more info on him (he’s a great guy, down-to-earth, humble, Stanford-educated, etc.) Thanks for considering this as you know how this business is and servicing clients.”
Like any good publicist… Nikprelaj’s agent sent the email to the New York Post!
When news broke of Osama Bin Laden’s death, the NY Mets and Philadelphia Phillies were in a heated divisional matchup but any rivalry was interrupted by the fans chanting “USA!” Players did not find out the reason behind the chanting until an inning later. After the game, Mets third-baseman David Wright said, “I don’t like to give Philadelphia fans too much credit, but they got this one right,” and pitcher Chris Young said, “There are some things in life that are bigger than a game. To hear the crowd chant ‘USA’, I got chills.”
Way to go Yankees fans! Future Hall-of-Famer Cliff Lee turned down a six-year $132 million contract from the New York Yankees to take between $34-50 million less by singing with the Philadelphia Phillies. The reason? An incident stemming from this year’s playoffs when Yankees fans spit on Lee’s wife and threw beer on her when New York played the Texas Rangers.
Kristen Lee was outspoken about the incident. Back in October she told the Huffington Post: “The fans did not do good things in my heart. When people are staring at you, and saying horrible things, it’s hard not to take it personal.”
That’s one point for #TeamJerseyChaser. Remember Yankees fans…. happy wife, happy life!
