Lamar Odom and Dallas Mavs part ways

Lamar Odom has worn out his southern hospital welcome and has been released by the Dallas Mavericks. Fans of the show Khloe and Lamar have seen first hand Odom’s difficult transition as a member of the Mavericks. In the 50-games this season, Odom has only started four and averaged a career low 6 points per game. Odom also took a personal leave of absence to attend to his father in LA.

In a  statement to ESPNDallas.com Odom said: “The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it’s in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team. I’m sorry that things didn’t work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs’ organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship.”

Because Odom was still on the roster at the March 15 trade deadline, he is ineligible to play for another NBA team this season. However, instead of releasing Odom Mavericks are making him inactive. The Mavericks owe Odom $8.2 million for the 2012 and 2013 season, and hope to dump some of his contract by trading him in the offseason.

But it may be difficult to find another team willing to take a chance on the 13-year veteran. Last month, even head coach Rick Carisle called out Odom’s commitment, “Our fans want to know that Lamar’s in. Our players want to know that Lamar’s in. It’s not about how many points he’s scoring or rebounds … Our fans, our players want to see the guy playing like his pants are on fire and we haven’t seen that so far and that’s got to change.”

Dallas Mavs party in Miami after beating Heat in NBA Finals

After winning the NBA Championship, the Dallas Mavericks decided to take advantage of being in the city where the heat is on and took the trophy out in Miami. The team rang up a $100,000 bar tab at Club Liv at the Fountainbleau Hotel in South Beach. That’s chump change for billionaire owner Mark Cuban who bought a $90,000 bottle of Nebuchadnezzar of Armand de Brignac champange that was 15L or 20 regular sized bottles.

Also joining the after party was rapper Lil’ Wayne, who is a known Heat fan, along with Trey Songz, Lil Twist, Slim Thug and Birdman. Mysteriuosly abesent from the party in “his city” was LeBron James.

LeBron and Wade mock Dirk

Dirk Nowitzki is regarded as one of the nicest guys in the NBA. He even once famously autographed a LeBron jersey on Punk’d. But Nowitzki was not so nice after LeBron and Dwyane Wade mocked the NBA superstar for having a fever before Game 4 of the NBA finals. Nowitzki battled a sinus infection and a 101 fever, and the following day LeBron and Wade fake coughed after their team shoot around.

Nowitzki commented on the incident after Saturday’s practice, “I just thought it was a little childish, a little ignorant. I’ve been in this league for 13 years. I’ve never faked an injury or illness.”

Sick or not, Nowitzki is averaging 27 points in the NBA Finals, and his Dallas Mavericks have a 3-2 lead over the Miami Heat.

“It happened. It’s over to me,” Nowtizki said. “It’s not going to add anything extra to me. This is the NBA Finals. If you need an extra motivation at this time of year then you have a problem. We’re one win away from my dream, what I’ve worked on for half of my life.”

When asked about the alleged cough, Wade said, “I actually did cough, and with the cameras being right there, we made a joke out of it because we knew you guys were going to blow it up. You did exactly what we knew.”

Despite the controversy, Wade is claiming his and LeBron’s innocence, “We never said Dirk’s name. I think he’s not the only one in the world who can get sick or have a cough. We just had fun with the cameras being right in our face about the blowup of the incident, and it held to be true. You blew it up.”
