Baseball comissioner Bud Selig has announced the MLB will take over operations for the LA Dodgers. Real estate mogul Frank McCourt has owned the team since 2004 and has come under fire in his attempt to sell the marquee franchise in the midst of a bitter divorce and more recently when stadium security flaws that left a San Francisco Giants fan in a coma on Opening Day. In a statement released by the commissioner, the decision was made in order to “protect the best interests of the club, its great fans and all of Major League Baseball.”
Last week, Selig first intervened in Dodgers operations to stop a $30m loan McCourt took out from Fox in order to pay the team’s payroll. In 2009, court documents revealed the Dodgers were in debt by over $430m and growing, despite Forbes estimating the value of the Dodgers franchise to be worth more than $750m.
A midst the divorce scandal, which includes the firing of McCourt’s now estranged wife Jamie from CEO of the team, California Attorney General Jerry Brown launched an investigation in regards to the charity’s chief executive Howard Sunkin, earning a salary of nearly $400,000 per year, almost a quarter of the foundation’s entire budget.
Despite being the No.1 overall seed in the NBA, the Chicago Bulls struggled against the Indiana Pacers in Game 1 of the playoffs…that is until Derrick Rose scored 39 points to help the Bulls come from behind and win, 104-99. After the game, Pacers guard Danny Granger described Rose’s persistence like a “crazy stalker ex-girlfriend. Every time you tell her you don’t want to talk to her, she’ll show up at your door again.”
A judge has order David Beckham to pay In Touch Magazine’s court fees after he sued the magazine for $25 million over false accusations. The suit was dismissed by the judge over failure of evidence that the editors of In Touch published the story “with malice” intent after In Touch printed that Becks cheated on wife Victoria beckham with Bosian prostitute, Irma Nici.
Beckham refutes the dates and times Nici claimed she was with the soccer star. In the legal documents obtained by News of the World, Beckhman said: “As is my custom when I arrive at a hotel on a road trip before a match, a massage therapist came to my hotel room within a few hours after I checked to in to give me a massage… I recall that the therapist did not leave my hotel room until the very early morning. My security team was with me before, during and after the massage. After the therapist left I went to sleep. I have reviewed the daily logs prepared by my security detail which confirm my recollections.”
Becks has already filed an appeal but still must pay the $300,000 in legal fees for In Touch. Him and his wife Victoria are expecting their fourth child and first daughter this summer.
Super couples Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen maybe expecting their second child. Bundchen was at a launch party for her line of Ipanema sandals sporting a bump! Both Bunchdchen’s and Brady’s reps had no comment if the Victoria Secret model was pregnant. The couple’s first on Benjamin is 1, but according to Brady who told Details Magazine in 2009, “I want a lot of kids. I’d love four or five. We’ll see. It’s not always my decision.”
Brady also has a child with former girlfriend Bridget Moynahan. Bundchen and Monyahan have an apparent fued over Bundchen’s comments about her son, “It’s not like because somebody else delivered him, that’s not my child,” Bundchen said. “I love him the same way as if he were mine. I already feel like he’s my son, from the first day.”
