What better tour guide for Tim Tebow than the woman who sings “Like a Virgin.” With the NY Jets, officially announcing the acquisition of Tim Tebow, Madonna has offered to show the quarterback around his new city. The hospitality first came up when Ryan Seacrest Tweeted Madonna: ”Since @TimTebow is moving to ny now, will you show him around?” Madonna replied: “Id love to show @TimTebow around town…we have so much in common. He’s “like a virgin” and so am I.”
Madonna is a veteran jersey chaser. The Material Mom dated Alex Rodriguez in 2008 and was rumored to be the cause of his divorce from his wife. But Madonna will have to get in line, Tebow has been linked to both Taylor Swift and Glee’s Dianna Agron.
The idea of the Material Girl showing Tebow around won’t sit well with team officials. The Jets have already encouraged Tebow to live in Hoboken, New Jersey near the team’s practice facility and not “to be influenced and distracted in the city.” Apparently, the Jets have never watched the Jersey Shore.
Madonna has been named the Super Bowl half time performer. The Material Girl beat out other acts including Lady Gaga, who NBC officials did not think would identify with NFL fans… but apparently Madonna does. This is the second time Madonna has asked to perform at the Super Bowl, but in 2000 had to pull out due to a scheduling conflict.
The NFL released a statement saying, ” “We are happy to confirm that Madonna will perform in the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Sunday, February 5 … The Material Girl has partnered with a creative team from Cirque du Soleil, Jamie King, and multimedia artists from Moment Factory, to create a signature performance for the Super Bowl’s halftime show, which will be broadcast worldwide.”
Ironically enough, this year’s Super Bowl is in Indianapolis, which Madonna has never toured in.
I am willing to be most NFL fans do not have “Like a Virgin” or “Material Girl on their iPods, but they will be hearing those songs at this year’s Super Bowl.
SB Nation is reporting Madonna has reached a deal with the NFL to play at this year’s Super Bowl half time show. Although Mage’s rep says there’s “nothing to confirm at this point,” the Super Bowl would coincide with the singer’s Spring 2012 album release.
Madonna has built her career on controversy, causing many NFL insiders to be suprised by the move. The FCC came down hard on the league after Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction in 2004. CBS was slapped with a record breaking $550,000 fine, and the NFL banned MTV from ever producing a Super Bowl half time show again.
While Madonna isn’t the easily identifiable sports fans such as past acts like Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, the 53-year old singer did have a well publicized romance with New York Yankees Alex Rodriguez!
