Regulation Hottie Recap: Day 1 Semifinals

Jersey we’d like to chase: Robin van Persie came back from an elbow injury to help the Netherlands go onto the World Cup Finals.Van Persie’s left elbow was injured in an earlier game against Brazil. Thankfully no injury was done to his face ;) Van Persie plays for English professional football club Arsenal and is the club’s vice-captain. Van Persie has a sensitive side as his parents are both artists. The 25-year old is married and has two children.

Recap: The Netherlands beat Uruguay in the first game of the World Cup semi-finals, 3-2. Dutch captain, Giovanni van Brockhorst opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Brockhorst has announced he will retire after the World Cup, but isn’t done just yet… the 35-year old scored 42 yards out on a 58 mph striker to take a 1-0 lead.Uruguay tied up the game with a goal from Diego Forlan. The Dutch stole back the lead when Welsey Sneijder scored. Sneijder is tied with Spain’s David Villa and other jersey we’d like to chase, for the most goals in the tournament. Villa and Sneijder both have five goals in the World Cup. Arjen Robben got the last goal for the Dutch, as they took a 3-1 lead. Maxi Pereira of Urugay scored in the 90th minute, but it was too late. This is the first time since 1978 the Netherlands will go onto the World Cup Finals.

Regulation Hottie Recap: Word Cup Quaterfinals

Jersey we’d like to chase: David Villa led Spain to the Semifinals of the World Cup after scoring the only goal in the Spain Paraguay matchup. Villa is currently a striker for Barcelona. Villa is married to his childhood sweetheart with whom he has two daughters with. You may recognize him from the videogame box for FIFA 07.

Recap: Netherlands 2, Brazil 1- Brazil was the heavy favorite in the tournament and were bounced out by the Netherlands. Brazil got the first goal but played too conservative for the rest of the game. Brazil’s coach, Dunga, was fired after the upset.
Uruguay 1- Ghana 1 (4-2 on penalty kicks)- Africa’s last hope at the World Cup championship was ruined as Uruguay sent home Ghana. Ghana scored first just before the end of the first half. The goal was from Mutari who was almost sent home for having an argument with Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac. Mutari’s goal was not enough for Ghana, Urugay’s Forian scored in the 55th minute, and Uruguay took the game when it was decided in penalty kicks.
Germany 4, Argentina 0- In another shocking upset in the World Cup Quarterfinals, Germany beat Argentina 4-0. Germany started the scoring early into the game with a head kick from Mueller. Klose had two goals in the game. In Germany’s past two gamed they have scored a combined eight goals.
Spain 1, Paraguay 0- David Villa scored the only goal in the Spain Paraguay matchup as Spain heads on to the semifinals. The goal came late in the game at 83 minutes. Earlier Spain had missed not one but two penalty kicks, after Justo Villar was tripped on the original penalty kick.

World Cup Regulation Hottie: Day 18

Jersey to chase: Kaka is kind of like Prince or Madonna since he is only known by Kaka. His full name is Ricardo Izescon dos Santos Leite. Kaka signed his first professional contract at age 15, and now plays for Real Madrid as well as for the Brazil National team. As devout Christian, Kaka can be often seen pointing to the sky when he scores a goal and famously wore a “Jesus Loves You” T-shirt at the 2005 FIFA Confederation Cup. He is married to his childhood sweetheart Caroline Celico. The couple have a daughter Luca Leite.

Recap: The Netherlands ended Slovakia’s Cinderella World Cup run, winning 2-1. It was Slovakia’s first World Cup as an independent nation. Netherlands’s Arjen Robben played in the game after suffering from a hamstring injury and scored a goal for his home team. The Netherlands will play Brazil on Friday who beat Chile 3-0. Despite Brazil winning against Chile, the game remained scoreless for the first 34 minutes. This is the fifth consecutive World Cup Brazil has reached the quarterfinals.

World Cup Regulation Hottie: Day 17

Jersey to chase: England’s Joe Cole is trading in the World Cup for diaper duty. After England was eliminated form the World Cup, Cole will go home to his new baby Ruby with his wife Carly. Also adding to his busy schedule… Cole will become a free agent on July 1. Since 2003, Cole has played with Chelsea, but the team has announced they will not be renewing their contract with Cole.

Recap: While all eyes have been on the South American teams to win the World Cup, Germany reasserted itself as a favorite. On Sunday, Germany beat England 4-1, but it did not come without controversy.Matt Upson scored the lone goal for England, however another goal by Frank Lampard was disallowed as refs claimed the goal did not go in, outraging England. Also creating drama was the officiating in the Argentina Mexico game. While Argentina won 3-1, the first goal by Carlos Tevez appeared to be well offsides. Day 3 of Round of 16 play continues tomorrow.
