Brad Pitt knows nothing about baseball but is on cover of Sports Illustrated

Despite knowing nothing about baseball, Brad Pitt is on the cover of Sports Illustrated for his new film Moneyball. The movie is about the Oakland A’s General Manager Billy Beane, who was able to build a competitive baseball team with a low payroll through sabermetrics analysis. According to critics Pitt’s performance may win him his first Oscar, let’s just hope Pitt hasn’t heard of the Sports Illustrated jinx...

On getting the SI cover: “I was just happy to do Sports Illustrated. To do something other than the fashion-y things, for something I respect, is much more fun.”

On his background in baseball: “It’s shameful how little I know about baseball…. I’m amazed they let me do this movie…. Baseball and I didn’t get along that well. I wrestled one year [in high school]. I dove one year. Everything but baseball.”

On what initially drew Brad to the Moneyball story: “I’m a sucker for the underdog story.”

On the end goal of the film: “What we were trying to do is tell an unconventional story in the Trojan horse of a conventional baseball movie.”

*Other athletes who have been on the cover of SI: Bob Hope, Stephen Colbert, Steve McQueen and Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, and Presidents Bill Clinton, John Kennedy, Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan.

Jim Leyland won’t change his underwear!

The Detroit Tigers are on their longest winning streak in 77-years… and manager Jim Leyland is on a dirty underwear streak since he is wearing the same pair since his Tigers lost their last game on September 1.

Leyland reveled his dirty little secret when he told reporters: “I will wear these underwear until we lose. I can tell you that right now. And they will not be washed. And I don’t give a (expletive) who knows it.”

Along with his underwear, Leyland has worn the same pair of socks since that streak began, which now has holes in them.

“I told (Jim) Schmakel [Tigers clubhouse manager] if somebody threw them out, that would be the end,” Leyland said.

Leyland has good reason to be cautious, the Tigers have blown notorious leads in September during the last month of the MLB season… but now its only the competition smelling fear. The Tigers have a 14 game lead in the AL Central division.

Phillies bench player asks agent to set him up with model-actress

Phillies bench player John Mayberry Jr. can’t score on the field or off. After seeing Pirates of the Caribbean, the .264 right fielder asked his agent to set him up with actress Antoinette Nikprelaj who played the mermaid, only problem is Nikprelaj is married and has a child!

In the email, Mayberry’s agent wrote: “I hate to even be sending you this e-mail, and I’m quite embarrassed to say the least, but we have a young client on the Philadelphia Phillies who asked us if we knew any agents at Innovative Artists and could connect him to Antoinette Nikprelaj.

“I know you’re not a dating or set-up service, but John Mayberry Jr. (Phillies OF) would love to meet Antoinette or invite her to a baseball game sometime. Would this be possible?”

He added, “Here’s a bio of John to give you some more info on him (he’s a great guy, down-to-earth, humble, Stanford-educated, etc.) Thanks for considering this as you know how this business is and servicing clients.”

Like any good publicist… Nikprelaj’s agent sent the email to the New York Post!
