Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis had a career year after he was traded from the Denver Broncos. Hillis was 8th in the AFC for rushing and scored 11 touchdowns.
According to reports, Hillis was traded after he hit on former head coach Josh McDaniel’s wife. But accordingly to Hillis, he was traded for another reason… the color of his skin. Hillis told the Huffington Post:
“In Denver they just wanted me to play strictly fullback, nothing else. I wasn’t too happy about the situation, but I was trying to be a team player. I just wanted to be on the field. It ended up I didn’t play anything at all…. They’ll say, ‘You white boy, you ain’t gonna run on us today. This is ridiculous. Why are you giving offensive linemen the ball? All kinds of stuff like that you hear on the field, but I use that to my advantage. I kind of soaked it in, ate it up a little bit, because I enjoyed it.”
Ex-NFL player Chidi Ahanotu told courts in September he is unable to pay $130,000 in legal fees he owes in a custody battle with his ex-wife, so a judge has ordered him to hand over his NFC Championship ring as compensation. Ahanotu won the ring with the St. Louis Rams in 2001.
According to Pro Football Talk, Ahanotu said, “This court system is a farce. This court wants a man to hand over his once-in-a-lifetime accomplishment to pay some damn attorney’s fees? I could see if it was going to pay something for my children or my ex-wife.”
I guess football isn’t even exempt from the rules… what’s yours is mine.
Oprah and new CNN talk show host Piers Morgan have placed a bet on who can land an interview with Michael Vick first. The talk show hosts bet $312 dollars or $200 British pounds in Morgan’s case. A Philadelphia Eagles spokesman confirmed both shows have reached out to the organization in hopes of booking the notorious quarterback. When asked about the bet by the Philadelphia Enquirer Vick said, “I don’t even know who that guy is…If the bet was made, she’ll probably win because I know nothing about that other guy.”
Vick is having a busy off season. The Eagles were knocked out of the playoffs two weeks ago against the Green Bay Packers and is a free agent. After Vick served 18-months in jail for dog fighting, the 30-year old signed a 2-year contract with the Eagles. Despite an MVP caliber season, Vick revealed he is still $20m in debt… maybe Morgan can beat out Oprah the by paying him the $312 winnings.
