Last night, the Philadelphia Flyers won in overtime, overcoming a 3-0 deficit in the first game of the opening round of the playoffs against the rival Pittsburgh Penguins… and they did it without their lucky ribs. The Flyers have credited much of their 6-1 all-time record in the Penguins’ new arena to Dee Jay’s BBQ ribs.
Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette revealed, “We buy ribs from DeeJays in Weirton after the game and have them delivered to the plane. And those ribs seem to be doing the trick. It went back to last year, too. Whenever the ribs are ordered, we win. I want to thank DeeJays.”
Unfortunately for the Flyers, the owner of DeeJay’s if a Penguins fan and didn’t appreciate Laviolette making it known that he was aiding, embedding and feeding the enemy. ”I am a Penguin fan, not a Flyer fan. What happened was sometime last year, Peter wanted to treat his guys to some ribs, so I said sure. They were playing the Penguins and I brought the ribs up to the plane. Since the Pens moved to the Consol Center they haven’t beaten the Flyers and on each occasion, I took ribs up to their plane,” restaurant owner Dewey Guida said. “Little did I know he would go into the press conference and say the reason they won was our ribs.”
To prove his Penguins fanhood and keep his loyal Pittsburgh customers, Guida has banned the Phialdelphia Flyers from ordering ribs telling the Steubenville Herald-Star, ”No more ribs for them, and I pray, I hope, that the Penguins beat their skates off.”
Congratulations to Hilary Duff and her NHL husband Mike Comrie who announced Sunday they are pregnant with their first child. Duff announced the exciting news on her official blog saying on the couple’s one year wedding anniversary, “I can’t believe it has already been a year, time really flies when you’re having fun! We also want to share the exciting news that…… BABY MAKES THREE!!! We are extremely happy and ready to start this new chapter of our lives. Thanks to everyone for the continued love and support throughout the years!”
News came to a suprise to fans of the couple when in May Duff told Access Hollywood that her and Comrie would wait to start of family so she could release another album. But Comrie may just be playing Mr. Mom since he announced he would be taking a break from hockey after having hip surgery.
The 30-year old Canadian last played for the Pittsburgh Penguins but is now an unrestricted free agent. Duff, who is 23, and Comrie met when he played for the New York Rangers.
While the Pittsburgh Penguins captain skated with the team for the first time in more than two months, rumors are circulating that Sidney Crosby could be retiring. The most hyped NHL player since Wayne Gretzky suffered a head concussion in January, and his return date remains up in the air. While Crosby’s agent denies the Toronto radio sation’s report that the NHL MVP winner is retiring, other reports say his family is worried about his health.
Last week, the Wall Street Journal released a study by reachers that diceased hockey player Bob Probert suffered from CTE. Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy is a degenerative brain disease caused from repeated trauma to the head. Crosby’s father Troy told ESPN, “We’re just trying to get him healthy again… However long that takes, that’s how long it’s going to take.”
What’s worse than having your @$$ kicked in a goalie fight? Just ask NY Islanders goalie Rick DiPerto who will miss the next 4-6 weeks from facial fractures and knee swelling. DiPerto squared off with Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Brent Johnson on Wednesday where he was not only beat up at center ice but in the crease, the Islanders lost to the Pens, 3-0…. bringing their record to a depressing 16-28-7. DiPerto told reporters: “I’m sick of losing, our team’s sick of losing. You never go into a fight expecting you’re going to get smashed in the face that hard, or with these kind of consequences, but it happens and you move on.”
From the looks of the fight, it looks as if Johnson has been watching the Jersey Shore and stealing Ronnie’s moves… “That’s one shot.”
