Zooey Deschanel sang the National Anthem at the World Series Saturday, but apparently she isn’t a baseball fan. Deschanel currently stars in the series, New Girl, and Fox was nice enough to have the star of their newest sitcom sing before Game 4. After, the cast of New Girl and Glee watched on the third baseline. MLB analyst Joe Buck even commented, “A lot of times, the stars have their moment on TV and then they just bolt.”
That was until the 7th inning, when the camera shot back to Deschanel, but the seats were empty. This time, Buck joked, “Maybe they’re just out getting a snack … all of ‘em at once.”
Deschanel took to her Twitter saying, “Would have loved to have watched the whole game but I had to catch a plane so I can go to work tomorrow. That’s all guys. I’m not a jerk.”
I guess it didn’t matter to Deschanel that St. Louis Cardinal Albert Pujols broke a baseball record by hitting three home runs.
Texas native Demi Lovato will sing the National Anthem at Game 5 of the World Series. Thanks to social media, the Disney star gained the attention of the MLB after her sister Tweeted in support of Lovato singing, and fans joined in on the campaign.
The Texas Rangers won last night’s game and are tied 1-1 with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Baseball playoffs haven’t exactly been getting the best ratings… Fox even buried Game 3 of the ALCS in the afternoon for X Factor before a two-hour rain delay ruined the plan, so the MLB’s latest promo featured the St. Louis Cardnials Rally Squirrel. A squirrel ran across the field in Games 4 and 5 of the NLDS between the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies. In Game 4, the play as interrupted when the Rally Squirrel ran across home plate as Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt was delivering a pitch to Skip Schumaker. The pitch was called a ball much to Oswalt and Phillies manager Charlie Manuel’s dismay. The Cardinals went on to win the series causing many to attribute the win to the Rally Squirrel.
