Michael Vick spent 19-months in the dog house for running a dog fighting ring and is now a pet owner himself. Rumors began circulating Vick owned a dog after he posted a picture on Twitter at his home with a box of opened dog treats. The Twitpic was deleted, and Vick refused to answers questions at practice on whether he owned a dog or not.
In a statement released by his publicist, the controversial Philadelphia Eagles quarterback said: “I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family’s decision to care for a pet,” Vick said in a statement. “As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals. I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God’s creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family.”
During Vick’s probation, he was not allowed to own a dog but has since volunteered for the Human Society and is a speaker against animal cruelty.
It is NFL tradition for rookies to pay for the team dinner during the season’s Rookie Night of the bye week, but DE first-year Shea McClellin, who grew up on a farm off Chicken Dinner road, was not expecting the Chicago Bears to rack up a $38,000 tab.
Lucky for McClellin, the $38,000 check was a fake planted by team veterans.
“I saw it, and I was like, ‘I don’t know how I’m going to pay for this.’ I don’t think my debit card can go that high,” McClellin said.
The total price of the dinner, which was held at Mastro’s Steakhouse in Chicago, was about a third of the fraud check. Israel Idonije tweeted a picture of the bill with the hashtag #RookieNight.
While McClellin’s bill was only a prank, other rookies were not so fortunate. In 2010, the Dallas Cowboys stiffed rookie Dez Bryant with a $54,000 bill for refusing to carry veteran Roy Willams’ pads after practice.
Looks like a personal foul is being called on Bachlorette Emily Maynard. In August, US Weekly had Jef Holm’s brother accused Maynard of texting with another man. Now, the magazine has revealed the texter was Oakland Raider quarterback Matt Leinart.
Holm’s ex Kaylee Shepherd confirms the rumors, “He said the story was 100 percent accurate. When she put her phone down, [Jef] picked it up and read through everything. . . Jef said, ‘It was that pro football guy . . . She strung me along and was talking to another guy the whole time!’”
This is the second Bachlorette Leinart has been linked to. In July 2010, the same cheating rumors were linked to Leinart and Ali Fedotowsky, who was engaged to Roberto Martinez a the time. As the Raiders backup QB, it looks like Leinart gets more action off the field.
