World Cup Regulation Hottie Recap: Day 14

Jersey to chase: Italy hunk Fabio Cannavaro may be 37 but he makes jersey chasers giggle like 5-year olds. Cannavaro and Italy are headed home early from the World Cup. After the World Cup, Cannavaro will play with his new team Al-Ahli Dubai.

Recap: The final games of group play were played yesterday, and like much of the World Cup, they brought many surprised. The defending world champ from 2006, Italy, have been eliminated. Italy lost to Slovakia, 3-2. Slovakia took an early lead, and Italy never recovered. Italy also finishes last in Group F with two points. Paraguay took Group F, as they tied New Zealand 0-0 in their final game. Also advancing is Japan, who beat Denmark in a physical 3-1 game. While the Netherlands had already qualified before their game against Cameroon, the Dutch had to stay competitive winning only 2-1.

Tomorrow: Round of 16 games start tomorrow, games to watch include Portugal v. Brazil and Chile v. Spain.

Longest tennis match finally ends

After 11 hours and 5 minutes the longest match in tennis history has ended. At Wimbledon’s Men’s Singles, American and 23rd seed, John Inser defeated French qualifier Nicolas Mahut.

The game began at 6:18 (UTC) on Tuesday June 22 and had to continue the following day because play was suspended at 9:07pm. The match resumed on Wednesday at 2:05pm then was suspended again at 9:15pm to resume Thursday.

Inser won at 4:49pm after a little over an hour of playing. The final set lasted 8 hours and 11 minutes. Inser had 112 aces during the match, breaking yet another record.

Landon Donovan reconciling with his wife?

Landon Donovan scored the game winning goal in the US Algeria game and became the most desired man in America. But not so fast fellow jersey chasers, Yahoo Sports is reporting Donovan is reconciling with his estranged ex-wife, actress Bianca Kajlich. Donovan and Kajich separated last July after 3 1/2 years of marriage.

After Donovan led Team USA to victory, he had an emotional telephone call with Kajilich. He told Yahoo: “We are not officially divorced. We spoke last night; it was nice.” At a post-game press conference, Donovan went into further detail, “I’ve carried her with me through this tournament and she’s been a part of this with me. and I am lucky to have her.” When asked if he was back together with his wife, Donovan said: “What is this, Access Hollywood?”

The couple have no children and were married on Dec. 31, 2006. Whatever Kajilich is doing… keep up the good work!

World Cup Day 13 Regulation Hottie Recap

Regulation Hottie: Our regulation hottie is American hero Landon Donovan. Donovan scored the game winning goal in the US v. Algeria soccer game. It is no surprise Donovan score the goal, he is also the all-time leader in scoring and assists among US players. Recap: US v. Algeria and England v. Slovenia played simultaneously. England first got the win, while the US was still tied with Algeria… at that moment the US knew what they had to do to advance into round of 16 in the World Cup. However, the US changes were looking grim until Landon Donovan scored in the 91st minute. Donovan scored on a counterattack to get the victory. This is the first time since the World Cup began in 1930 that the US has won their group. In the other important game, England beat Slovenia 1-0. The lone goal came from Jermain Defore, who scored in the 23rd minute. Australia and Germany got wins in their matches against Serbia and Ghana respectively. Despite Ghana’s loss, the US will play Ghana in their next game Saturday at 2:30. Tomorrow: It is do or die for Italy, who won the last World Cup in 2006. Italy plays Slovakia tomorrow at 10am.
