Ron Artest to play for the NFL after he retires

Though his contract doesn’t expire with the Los Angeles Lakers until 2014, Ron Artest will try out to play in the NFL after he retires from the NBA.

Artest told CBSsport.com that he does not plan on resigning with the Lakers or with any other NBA team once his current contract runs out in 2014. Artest will be 35-years old and has plans to try out for an NFL team:

“God willing, after my NBA career, God willing I’m still athletic enough – which I’m trying to take care of my body as best as possible and be prepared for this day, for this tryout of an NFL team… It’s a fantasy of mine. It’s an opportunity because I’m athletic. So if that fantasy can be fulfilled, and if it’s something that can really be reached as far as a goal, I’m going for it.”

While Artest plans to continue in the athletic field after the NBA, other basketball veteran Ben Wallace wants to go to law school. The Detroit Pistons center told Yahoo Sports, “That’s my ultimate goal. It’s always been one of my dreams. I think I can argue a pretty good case. I think I can convince a couple of people to see things my way.”

Wallace has played 15 seasons in the NBA and just signed a two-year contract with Detroit worth $4.3 million. “I know my time is limited as far as being a player,” Wallace said. “That’s something I’ve already accepted and come to peace with.”

Both Artest and Wallace have won an NBA Championship. Wallace in 2004 with the Pistons and Artest this past summer with the Lakers.

Ironically, these two players who are both taking different paths post-NBA were at the center of one of the NBA’s biggest controversies, the 2004 Menace at the Palace.

Tiger Woods joins Twitter

Tony Parker is just the latest athlete to be involved in a text message scandal. But it was a year ago this Thanksgiving news broke of the Tiger Woods cheating allegations. While Parker and Brett Favre have been giving Tiger some time off by dominating the headlines, Tiger has begun a PR campaign to help restore his image.

The golfer even joined Twitter, @TigerWoods,  posting two tweets yesterday:

”What’s up everyone. Finally decided to try out twitter!”

“‘Yep, it’s me. I think I like this twitter thing. You guys are awesome. Thanks for all the love.”

In just one day, Tiger has attracted more than 180,000 followers. Along with trying to connect with fans on Twitter, the normally private Tiger has embarked on a media campaign. This morning, Tiger did an almost 20-minute interview with ESPN Radio’s Mike and Mike. In the interview Tiger revealed, “It’s amazing how much better I feel internally each and every day. How thankful I am to have the connection to my kids,” Woods said. “I feel so much better and everything is in much better perspective now.”

After his Mike and Mike interview, Tiger tweeted, “The best part about phone interviews is getting to wear shorts.”

I just hope this time Tiger keeps his shorts on! To follow thejerseychaser.com on Twitter click here!

Why is Michael Vick trending on Twitter?

Our Twitter followers have asked us why Michael Vick was trending on Twitter. It isn’t National Anti-Animal Abuse Day nor has a new dog fighting scandal broken out, but one of PETA’s most notorious NFLers  put up MVP caliber numbers in last night’s Monday Night Football game.

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Washington Redskins 59-28. Vick went 20/28 for 222 passing yards. Vick is known for his ability to run the ball, and last night was no exception; Vick was the second-leading rusher with 80 yards and 8 carries. The Eagles took a gamble when they signed Vick last summer, who had not played an NFL game since 2006, signing him to a $1.6 million contract for one year. This off season, Vick exercised a team option worth $5 million, but his contract expires at the end of the season

Vick’s career best game came on the heels of  Donvan McNabb five year $88 million contract with Washington Redskins.  McNabb played 10 seasons with the Eagles before being replaced by Vick, a risk that concerned many fans. News of McNabb’s contract has started rumors that a big contract is in store for Vick.

The Businessinsider.com is reporting last night’s game solidified a contract extension worth $50 million. It was just two Sundays ago that McNabb was benched for Rex Grossman leaving many football fans scratching their heads as to why McNabb got so much money.

The Eagles are currently 6-3, tied for first in the NFC East with the New York Giants. The team owes much of their success to Vick who leads the NFC in passing.

Congratulations to Jessica Simpson who is engaged to former NFL player Eric Johnson

Jessica Simpson is engaged to former NFL player Eric Johnson. The pair began dating back in May, when Johnson was still married and in the process of getting a divorce form his wife.

Simpson’s rep confirmed the news to JustJared.com, “We’re thrilled to confirm that it’s true! They are engaged.”

In his short lived NFL career, Johnson played five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and was released by the New Orleans Saints in 2008.

Johnson’s and Simpson’s relationship has apparently caused a rift between Simpson and her close friend and hair stylist Kevin Paves. Paves is rumored to not like Johnson and thinks he is dating Simpson for fame. Johnson was supposed to start business school at the prestigious Wharton School but dropped out to stay close to Simpson.

The couple’s engagement comes just one week after Simpson’s ex-husband Nick Lachey proposed to his longtime girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo.

This is not Simpson’s first stint as a jersey chaser. Simpson had a two-year relationship with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo before he broke up with her on her 30th birthday.

Congrats to Eric and Jess! Keep chasing ;)
