Rich Rodriguez gets creepy at Michigan football banquet, reads the Bible & sings Josh Groban

University of Michigan football head coach Rich Rodriguez is about to lose his job. In Rodriguez’ three years at Michigan he has compiled a 15-21 record and has failed to bring the team to a bowl game the past two seasons. But it is Rodriguez’s antics at the Michigan football banquet that have even the most die hard Wal-Mart Wolverines scratching their heads.

At last night’s team banquet, Rodriguez shared with the team his emotional struggles. Rodriguez cited the Bible about his faith in the Michigan program.

“I came here three years ago, leaving my comfort zone, because I thought this was a great opportunity,” he said. “I knew after being on the job for a few months there were going to be some challenges. And more come out in front of us. We never ran away from it. It’s going to happen, and it’s going to happen in a big way. I wish it happened yesterday, last year, the first year. Believe me, my life would be a lot easier.”

While this isn’t the SEC or Notre Dame, reading the Bible, especially during Advent isn’t entirely out of the ordinary, but it was Rodriguez next move that really creeped people out.

USC student Teague Egan certified as NFL agent; raises many red flags because of past NCAA violations

The USC Trojans are trying to change a tarnished image after its football program was accused of a flurry of NCAA player violations, but that may be hard to do now that a USC student has been certified an NFL agent by the NFL Players Association.

Teague Egan is a senior at USC and is known for his golf cart chauffeur business, but he has now upgraded his business endeavors to be an NFL agent.

Egan has the finical backing of his father who owns Alamo Car Rental and told the LA Times he hopes to represent between four in six of his friends who play football at USC in the upcoming NFL draft. Egan said:

“Like [famed NFL agent] Drew Rosenhaus who represented every Miami kid after going to school at Miami, I intend to represent every USC kid.”

Alabama employee fired for playing “Take the Money and Run” and “Son of a Preacher Man” for Cam Newton during Auburn game

A University of Alabama Sports Information employee was fired for playing the songs “Take the Money and Run” and “Son of a Preacher Man” during this weekend’s  Alabama game against SEC rival Auburn University.  The songs were an intended jab at Auburn star player and leading Heisman Trophy candidate Cam Newton. Newton is at the center of a national scandal and is accused of soliciting money to sign with a college team.

Retired Mississippi State quarterback John Bond was reportedly approached by Newton’s people to give Newton cash for him to sign at Bond’s Alma mauter. Bond reported the incident to the Mississippi University Athletic Director.

Newton was reportedly represented by Kenny Rogers, who is a former Mississippi State player himself, who now runs college football camps throughout the country. Rogers reevealed that Newton’s father, Cecil Newton expected to get anywhere between $100,000- $180,000 for his son to sign with a particular school. Cecil Newton is a pastor at the Holy Zion Center of Deliverance church in Georgia… making the song “Song of a Preacher Man” all the more comical.

Alabama has said that they have fired the part-time DJ because he violated school policy. Alabama public relations director Debbie Lane said:

“Our processes require that all music and videos played in the stadium prior to and during every game be carefully scripted and approved by a senior administrator in the Athletics Department. The former staff member deviated from the script that had been approved for the game with Auburn, and the University took steps to immediately terminate his contract.”

Maybe the DJ should have gone with something more subtle like Donna Summer’s “Work Hard for the Money.”

Unviersity of Maryland forms competitive eating team

Calling all non-athletic students… the University of Maryland has formed a competitive eating team. The club was formed last week by Keith Solomon who told AOL, “We are completly serious about this.”

Solomon founded the club in his freshmen year, and now in his junior year it has become official. Already, the club has 30 members. It is the first collegiate competitive eating team, but Solmon hopes it will soon be a scholastic sport.

“The University of Maryland motto is ‘Fear the Turtle,’” Solomon said. “Our motto is ‘Feed the Turtle.’”
